Things You Should Know When Hiring a Freelancer
First thing that should be understood is that design IS a business. In order for the freelancer to survive they need to manage sales, projects, quality and most important is their time. Time is the commodity in which a freelancer has a limited supply. Time has an impact on everything a freelancer sells which is why most projects are quoted on an hourly basis.
Most affected by time is the creativity and quality of work you receive. Design is an intellectual process based on creativity, experience and a knowledge of production. Lets face it. The only way to put this is,. The more "time" for the process the better quality of creative.
Secondly is the quality of the work you receive. Most any designer can bang off your job in an hour. But will it be good enough? You may feel that you have saved money but that will only last a short time. The time is needed for the intellectual process to unfold. If you are satisfied in what you have received with a one hour job, imagine what ten hours will produce? A job that will produce results for months not weeks. A design you can use again and again.
Throughout my career I have witnessed so many companies attempt to save money by hiring the least expensive and the least experienced. What I have seen is that their marketing suffers and even worse that they're unaware of are the huge production cost. In the end the attempt to save on cost has simply shifted expenses to a production cost and what you may not see is the loss in potential business.
Like anything else you buy you want it to work and you want it to last. Why should your marketing and advertising material be any different? |
